Unwritten...
With the kidnapping of Aster's father, he is placed under the care of The D, and in part, under the care of his manager, Sartorius. A self-acclaimed clairvoyant, Sartorius instills in Aster the belief that all things are predetermined, and that man is powerless to decide his own fate. Aster holds these ideals to be true and cultivates a strong assurance that everyone and everything is under the influence of destiny and all events are set in stone. He even exhibits these strong theses in his dueling style, where he tries to manipulate all aspects of the duel to showcase his mastery of fate and destiny.
When Sartorius incorrectly assures Aster that he will defeat Jaden in a certain duel, Aster begins to doubt these ideals. Jaden later manages to convince Aster that man determines his own life by defeating him in the duel and later rescuing him when he is kidnapped and almost killed by a corrupted Sartorius. As Jaden then engages Sartorius in a duel, Aster, watching from the sidelines, assures Syrus that Jaden can win, despite Sartorius's claims that fate has proclaimed him to be the eventual winner, saying, "If Jaden's taught me anything, it's that no one's destiny is written in stone." Aster finally breaks free from his confining philosophies and realizes that his life and future are up to him; that he is completely Unwritten.
